With love in the air this month, art lovers at the Las Cruces Museum of Art made February "Love of Art Month."
This theme has been celebrated in Las Cruces for 10 years, and with the help of city council, the events are happening all around the city.
Because a sub-theme is "Love and Chocolate," the exhibit pieces are all about the Valentine's Day staple. Some of the work even integrates chocolate into the pieces.
The exhibit submissions are by Las Cruces artists.
The work displayed includes "Love or Lust?" by Cheryl Fallstead, which uses red and green M&M's. Artist Brian Fallstead's "Little Kiss" transforms chocolate into a sculpture of a man holding a chocolate kiss in his mouth. Gail Cunningham's "Heaven Bound" portrays an angel showing her love for kiss balloons floating up to heaven.
The exhibit is open to the public and all pieces are for sale. The art is displayed at the Branigan Cultural Center.
The Branigan Cultural Center also offers a variety of other shows such as the New Mexico Watercolor Society Southern Chapter's art, the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media at the Blue Gate Gallery, Ruth Drayer's Dreamscapes in the show "Our Environment: Heaven, Earth and Beyond" at the Cottonwood Gallery of the Southwest Environmental Center and many more.
The Branigan Cultural Center is on 500 N. Water Street in the Downtown Mall. "Love of Art Month" runs through March 1.
