by Daniel Schrock News Reporter Three New Mexico businessmen have been selected to serve on the board of directors for the New Mexico State University Arrowhead Center. Tony P. Trujillo of Silver City, Sherman McCorkle of Albuquerque and Trevor R. Loy of Santa Fe are the three men selected for the board. Dean Garrey Carruthers of the College of Business Administration and Economics and vice provost for Economic Development gave the reasons why he chose the three men to serve on the board. "We had things that we wanted to accomplish," he said. "We wanted to make sure that the New Mexico business community was represented." "Trujillo came from the Association of Commerce and Industry, a statewide Chamber of Commerce," Carruthers added. "My aspiration there was to get the representation from the largest Business Association in the state." Carruthers said he selected them because he wanted representation from the Venture Capital community. "Trevor is in the process of organizing the 15 venture capital funds in the state into an association of Venture Capitalists," he said. Sherman is an employee of the Technology Ventures Corp., which is an Aerospace company formed to assist research and scientists in New Mexico in commercializing their intellectual property. Carruthers said Technology Ventures Corp. has one employee stationed in the NMSU Arrowhead Center already. Carruthers said all three men are already widely known and highly respected leading businessmen in New Mexico. Trujillo is a graduate of Western New Mexico University and is a director of government relations for the New Mexico Operations of Phelps Dodge Mining Co. Trujillo is also a regent of WNMU. McCorkle is a graduate from the Colorado Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado. McCorkle is the founder and charter director of New Mexico Bank and Trust and serves on the boards of United Way of America, the National Jewish Medical Research Center and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. Loy graduated with a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from Stanford University. He is the managing director and founder of Flywheel Ventures in Silicon Valley. The firm's headquarters was established in Santa Fe in 2000. The Arrowhead Center is an organization that deals with policy analysis, entrepreneurship and outreach, work force development and intellectual property commercialization for NMSU economic development. It also runs the Arrowhead Research Park Genesis Center.
