Campus input session about bookstore sees inconsiderable turnout

The NMSU Request For Proposal review committee held the second campus input session concerning the bookstore's services and operations Thursday to hear comments and feedback from the community.

"It's an evaluation process," head of the RFP committee and director of auxiliary operations at NMSU Tammy Anthony said in response to many questions concerning the outsourcing of the bookstore and the purpose of the RFP.

New ASNMSU officers sworn in

ASNMSU President-elect Justin O'Connell and new Vice President Isaac Polanco were sworn into office Thursday during the State of the Association, the student senate's last meeting of the spring semester.

O'Connell, who served this semester as a senator for the College of Business, defeated Lindsey Bilovesky last month in a tight race to take over presidential duties for the fall semester.

HLC evaluation team recommends NMSU reaccreditation

An evaluation team representing the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools announced its preliminary recommendation that New Mexico State University's Las Cruces and Grants campuses be reaccredited for a 10-year period during an exit report April 30.

Hispanic students test cultural knowledge on NBC quiz show

A group of five Latino NMSU students tested their cultural knowledge on a television quiz show in Chicago last month.

NMSU Associate Provost of Academic Affairs Jozi Deleon accompanied the team as their sponsor.

The "Know Your Heritage: Hispanic College Quiz" show, produced by Central City Productions in conjunction with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) consisted of a series of multiple-choice questions on Latino history taken from the book "A History of Latinos in America-Harvest of Empire" by Juan Gonzalez.

Mixed martial arts returned to Las Cruces with Southwest Fight Promotions organizing the event at the Pan American Center on Friday.

The event was only for amateur fighters, fighting not for money, but for a shot at the "big time," the ultimate goal for all fighters.

Aggie men's golf wins WAC title

The New Mexico State men's golf team added another Western Athletic Conference Championship to their resumé Wednesday. This is the second WAC title for the men's golf team, with their first coming in 2006.

The Aggies led the entire tournament in San Jose, Calif.

Track coach goes to Beijing

New Mexico State University track and field head coach Orin Richburg will represent his country in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in August as the head relay coordinator of the USA Track and Field team.

Richburg was named to the Team USA coaching staff in November, but with the NMSU track and field season coming to an end, he will begin his work with the Olympic-bound athletes this summer.
