Local citizens heat up fire training session

The number one physical characteristic a firefighter must have: endurance. This Saturday, endurance of public citizens was put to the test during a Las Cruces Fire Department training session. The Las Cruces Fire Department held a "Physical Performance Assessment" training session, which was open to the public for people 18 years and older who could participate in the session as preparation for the department's Firefighter's Academy.

Community environmental issues discussed on campus

A press conference was held last Thursday to discuss the upcoming topics to be presented by the third annual J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium. The focus of the symposium this year is finding alternative solutions to a wide range of environmental issues.

Students volunteer for community service

Student participants gathered outside the Corbett Center Student Union early Saturday morning to kickoff one of the largest student-run service projects at New Mexico State University, known as The Big Event. First, participants signed in to see what agency or organization they would be volunteering for.

Wikipedia editor identity revealed

Early last month, a well-known editor and administrator of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia resigned his position with the company after his true-identity was revealed. The editor, known only by his Wikipedia user name "Essjay," listed in his profile that he held a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies, a Master's in Religion and PhD's in both Theology and Canon Law.

Fraternity promotes disability awareness

The New Mexico State University chapter of the Fraternity Pi Kappa Phi will be holding its annual Couch-a-thon during the week of April 1 - 6. Pi Kappa Phi works with Push America, www.pushamerica.org, to raise awareness for people living with disabilitiess in New Mexico.
