As the last home football game looms overhead, New Mexico State University is coming off four straight losses and hopes to turn its season around against the Wolf Pack of Nevada.
While the game will be broadcast on ESPNU, some Aggies fans are electing to beginThanksgiving break elsewhere.
"I'm going out of town," senior Jorge Escobar said. "I would rather go home and visit my family than watch the Aggies play."
On the season, the Aggies are averaging 234 yards of total offense per game and have managed to score 12 touchdowns. This doesn't bode too well for the NMSU versus Nevada matchup Saturday. The Wolf Pack leads the series 10-2.
While the Aggies are slumping, some fans continue to pack Aggie Memorial Stadium.
"I always go to every game," sophomore Jesse Wilks said. " I get in free, so why not go?"
Wilks added he would be leaving Las Cruces back to his hometown, Albuquerque, shortly after the game to visit family.
The Aggies, which have allowed an average of 400 yards per game and have allowed 33 touchdowns from their opponents, will have its hands full against the Wolf Pack, which is currently tied for first in the Western Athletic Conference. Nevada has been averaging 39.1 points per game this season and 520 yards of total offense. The Nevada offensive effort is led by quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has passed for more than 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Kaepernick is also fourth in the WAC in rushing with 101.5 yards per game.
NMSU is currently last in the WAC in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense. Inconsistent quarterback play from Trevor Walls and Jeff Fleming has led the Aggies to average under 100 passing yards per game and has only scored four passing touchdowns this season.
Escobar said the passing peformance by the Aggies is dissapointing.
"We can't ever seem to move the ball foward," Escobar said.
The Aggies take on the Wolf Pack Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m.
